It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. 99 beginner Italian words & phrases with 99 matching English vocabulary cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment, ideal for advanced beginner Italian learners, and a great revision resource for students entering into intermediate Italian. The game cards and accompanying Recall & Write activities have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and spelling. It doesn’t matter if any of the words or phrases don’t feature in your medium or even longer-term learning plan: this is a great way of encouraging your students to engage with new language, and to build their vocabulary at the same time. The vocabulary groups are as follows: Saluti : I giorni della settimana : I mesi dell’anno : I numeri da 0 a 20 La mia famiglia : Le parole comuni : Italiano in classe : Domande e risposte Students can work independently of the teacher, challenging themselves and each other in their best Italian accent to find all the matching words & phrases cards in Italian and English. The card templates allow students to apply their Italian knowledge practically and creatively, as they put together mini-quiz cards for each other, preferably from memory. Creating new language is an essential element of successful language learning, so this is a key part of the overall activity, and it’s really popular with my students. The Reference, Recall & Write book has 18 pages. It includes an alphabetical Italian-English reference list of all 99 words & phrases. There are three recall challenges: Written Recall Challenge One students write the English word or phrase from an Italian prompt, with all the words and phrases grouped together in the same category Written Recall Challenge Two with this challenge, students write the words or phrases in Italian from an English prompt, and again, they’re all group together in the same category Written Recall Challenge Three the final challenge ‘switches’ at each question from Italian to English, and lists words and phrases randomly from each category. This challenges the memory more than when the vocabulary is in the order learners first learn it in, with the additional challenge of moving between the two languages - I’ve found that this really does encourage my students to think hard about their Italian vocabulary. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully. Lessons around the Christmas period are a great time for revisiting and practicing language and structures students ahve looked at over the term. The questions are entirely in Spanish, and students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their developing knowledge of Spanish in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The questions have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They are really useful for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in Spanish in general, and certainly in Spanish numbers and Spanish Christmas vocabulary in particular. The questions range in complexity and challenge, not only in terms of calculation, but also in terms of the level of Spanish - they are aimed at advanced beginner Spanish learners, rather than new or recent beginners. Most learners will be able to infer meaning from context and images, which have a real Spanish Christmas theme, such as el turrón and las uvas, with vocabulary and structures repeated throughout, giving learners a chance to familiarize themselves really well with them. Nonetheless, it can be useful to read through the questions with the whole class first to check everyone is able to access the language, and therefore the activity, successfully. Students really do benefit in terms of language learning if they have regular and frequent opportunities to work with the cards, rather than simply working with them in a single lesson. The Spanish Christmas vocabulary provides a really useful springboard for discussion about Christmas customs and traditions in Spain, Spanish regions, and other Spanish-speaking countries too, comparing and contrasting these to other Christmas practices students may know. The resource comprises the following non-editable files: 48 differentiated question cards ***answer recording sheet *** answer key & question card template Have a browse in my store for more Spanish resources and freebies. ¡MUCHAS GRACIAS Y FELIZ NAVIDAD!

These Italian animals display posters / flashcards create a fabulous Italian look and feel in the learning environment. I’ve found that this also helps promote Italian as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of beginner learners of Italian. They introduce learners to a range of animals in Italian from the very beginning of their learning, and they are able to familiarise themselves with how*** Italian*** words ‘look’, and how sounds are represented in the written form. There are 20 animals using the masculine and feminine indefinite article, which again is a great opportunity to begin to compare Italian to English. I’ve chosen a couple of insects and birds, as well as animals that feature in very popular stories, such as orso and lupo. Looking at language, and the ways it works, either similarly to, or differently from their first language, helps learners become implicitly aware of linguistic concepts in both languages, which I’ve found to be really useful for both current and later learning. The animals are: a bear a bee a bird a butterfly a cat a dog a fish a fox a frog a horse a kangaroo a monkey a mouse an owl a parrot a rabbit a spider a squirrel a turtle / tortoise a wolf Use them as flashcards to introduce and practice language too - it’s a traditional and successful low-tech teaching method, which gives students a welcome break from the whiteboard - varying teaching methodologies in the language learning classroom is always a good idea, and I also encourage my students to take the role of the teacher too, which they find really motivating. There are two sets of 20 9.5x11 (A4) portrait posters, each with a different background for you to choose from: Italian flag or animal footprint, so 40 flashcards / posters in total. I always laminate my posters / flashcards as they hang a lot better, are easier to manipulate as flashcards, and definitely last in great condition for years. Perfect for young learners of Spanish and an ideal introduction to the animal kingdom in Spanish. They provide lots of opportunities to learn a range of animals, both***masculine and feminine***, and really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Children can develop their skills in word recognition and recall, pronunciation, speaking, listening and reading in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They’re a great way of introducing the concept of gender, and of looking at the indefinite article in Spanish too. It doesn’t matter is any of the animals don’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the card games encourage children to engage happily and confidently with Spanish, to identify cognates and near-cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in Spanish. They also help learners begin to work out the meaning of unknown words using both visual clues and prompts, as well as linguistic indicators. There are 24 animals featured, across a series of decks, which enable you to vary and differentiate your games: Deck 1: picture and words cards, with both an image of, and the word for, the animal in Spanish, which is useful for multi-skill learning, particularly in the introductory phase of learning animal vocabulary, and for familiarising students with the written word in Spanish. Students can develop their Spanish language skills, as well as their knowledge of both the Spanish-speaking and wider world, in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. There are 21 countries where Spanish is an official language, and I’ve also included three countries where Spanish is very widely spoken: Gibraltar, Andorra and the USA. There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the games help them fully develop their general awareness, knowledge and understanding of Los países hispanohablantes. There is a country, capital city and flag reference list of all countries and capitals, which students find useful to read through before working on the sheets - I laminate these, because they last for years - one list per small group of 5-6 students is sufficient. It can also be used as a year-round reference resource, which students can file in their workbooks or learning folders. Create a fabulous Spanish look and feel in the learning environment, promoting Spanish as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of the classroom. Telling time is key beginner Spanish vocabulary, which is really useful to know as soon as possible, and students are able to familiarize themselves with how Spanish words ‘look’, and also how sounds are represented in the written form. I use these kinds of flashcards / posters to gradually introduce and work on the specific target language vocabulary we’re working on, and to provide speaking and pronunciation prompts, from the straightforward ¿Qué hora es? to ¿Sí/ no? or ¿Verdadero o falso? questions, which allow us to move to from one-word responses to more complex language, such as negative sentences No, no es medianoche, es mediodía and so on, paying particular attention here to the masculine and feminine. These are really simple ways to really try to get the most from classroom learning decor, using them as visual language prompts, as well as keeping the target vocabulary fresh in students’ minds, and as language refresh and revision by changing the decor at certain points of the school year. I like to have sets of learning displays for students, not only when they’re new to the target vocabulary, but also for refreshing and revising language they’ve learnt some time ago. Students can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image, and it’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell time. Use them as flashcards to introduce and practice language too - it’s a traditional and successful low-tech teaching method, which gives students a welcome break from the whiteboard - varying teaching methodologies in the language learning classroom is always a good idea, and I also encourage my students to take the role of the teacher too, which they find really motivating. The flashcards / posters are 8.5 x 11 (A4) portrait size. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Spanish flag or plain, so 56 flashcards / posters in total. I always laminate my posters / flashcards as they hang a lot better, are easier to manipulate as flashcards, and definitely last in great condition for years! ¡MUCHAS GRACIAS Y BUEN APRENDIZAJE!

Spanish-speaking countries Los países hispanohablantes presentation & quiz an instant and comprehensive introduction to 21 countries where Spanish is an official language, which really help my students develop their awareness of the Spanish-speaking world: countries, their location and capital cities and flags. There are 21 countries featured in the quiz. Each country is presented individually on a world map, so that students can see exactly where in the world it lies: this immediately gives a geographical context for students, whose knowledge of world geography may not encompass the Spanish-speaking or wider world.
